Ravenous by Dayna Macy

At first I groaned, saying to myself, “Not another food/diet book!” Clearly, I have a resistance to food/diet books because of my own unhealthy relationship with food. I have starved myself and binged and am a self-proclaimed sugar addict. I don’t diet, because even though I have not considered myself sick with anorexia for more than five years, I believe myself incapable of limiting without going to extremes. Continue reading

YOU Being Beautiful by Michael F. Roizen & Mehmet C. Oz

Wowza. This book is a PLETHORA of health information based on beauty. The authors are both semi-conservative and humorous. There is SO much information that I felt a little overwhelmed by the content– which leads me to believe that this would be a handy book to keep for reference.

While some of the “recommendations” are ones I would be unlikely to use, there were a many number of references to all natural remedies that I would prefer over some of the more extreme possible treatments for the various ailments. Continue reading

The Angel Therapy Handbook by Doreen Virtue

I couldn’t help but think of my dearest friend, El, while reading this. She is reading it at the same time (albeit FAR more quickly than I did), and I felt a very strong connection with El while I read it. I know that this is a powerful book that can and will motivate her on her own spiritual path, and I’m thrilled to see where she goes having read this. (no pressure, love. hehehehe) I’ll link to El’s review as soon as it’s posted. Continue reading

The Dance of Anger by Harriet Lerner

Three flurs. I’d really like to have this book in my library. It’s not literature really, but I am a sucker for self help books and this is one of my favorites yet. Of all of the books I would recommend to my friends, this is the one that should be first on their lists. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all took responsibility for ourselves and our reactions and emotions? Continue reading

A Course In Weight Loss by Marianne Williamson

The book itself, specifically the cover, is very appealing. I love the spring green color and the gold embossing on it. I love the font they selected, and I love the layout of the title. But the title?! “A Course In Weight Loss”?! Marianne Williamson is a big writer in A Course In Miracles belief system. The biggest tenant of that belief system is that none of the physical world is real and none of it matters. Using the words “Weight Loss” indicates a loss of sorts, and is NOT the verbiage you would want to use if you were looking to shed pounds. No, it really ought to be “A Course In Finding the Skinny You Inside” or something along those lines. Anyone familiar with metaphysics would scoff at “Weight Loss,” and anyone familiar with A Course In Miracles would scoff at weight loss being an entire focus of a book. Continue reading
